]]> Head of Syria’s civil aviation authority says International operations are resuming today at Damascus airport.

Damascus International Airport resumed operations on Tuesday, after a month-long hiatus since the fall of the ousted Assad regime.

Airport official Saad Khair Bek said that two flights from Damascus International Airport are departing for the United Arab Emirates, while the first plane is scheduled to arrive in Syria at noon from Qatar.

Islamist-led rebels declared that they have taken Damascus in a lightning offensive on Sunday, sending President Bashar al-Assad fleeing and ending five decades of Baath rule in Syria.

The staff at the airport in Damascus, the Syrian capital, have departed, according to a report by state television in Iran.

Reports indicate that a Ilyushin Il-76T carrying Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has left Damascus early Sunday headed towards the Mediterranean.
