A Qantas Boeing 737-800 returned to Sydney Airport quickly after takeoff.
Qantas flight QF643 departed Sydney today at 08:38 AEDT and climbed to 13,000ft before the crew declared an emergency (squawk 7700).
Pilots of the Boeing 737-800 (registration VH-VZV) required an immediate return to Sydney due to smoke in the cockpit.
The aircraft was cleared for a priority landing and returned to its gate only 29 minutes after takeoff.
