On 28th May, an IndiGo Airbus A320 was forced to be evacuated following a bomb threat. However, the bomb threat turned out to be a hoax.

The Airbus A320 with registration ES-SAG was scheduled to operate flight 6E2211 from Delhi to Varanasi. However, a tissue paper with “bomb” written on it was found on the cabin before take-off.

The crew then immediately treated it as a threat, evacuating all 176 passengers through the emergency gate. Some passengers exited by walking on the aisle of the plane, as seen in footage shared online. Thankfully, all passengers are reported safe.

Authorities immediately took action, parking the plane in a designated isolation bay for a thorough investigation.

“Safety is our prime concern and our crew acted accordingly. In the best interest of our customers safety. As with all safety & security events our flight safety team will be reviewing this as well.”

IndiGo Spokesperson

However, during evacuation passengers were seen carrying their bags which has raised concerns. IndiGo said that it will review why its own pilot and cabin crew broke safety protocol alongside passengers by bringing along their luggage during the emergency evacuation.

The Airbus A320-232 with registration N432UA was scheduled to operate flight UA2091 from Chicago (ORD) to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA). However, the crew rejected the takeoff at low speed after dense smoke was visible from the left IAE V2500 engine.

The incident occurred on runway 28R at ORD shortly after 2:00 pm CDT. None of the 148 passengers and 5 crew members aboard flight UA2091 to Seattle were hurt.

According to reports, the left engine of the aircraft, an International Aero Engines IAE V2527-A5, caught fire during the takeoff roll. Passengers on board reported seeing smoke billowing from the engine wing.

On 25th May, a Super Air Jet Airbus A320 veered off the runway while landing at Weda Bay Airport (WAEH) in Indonesia.

The Airbus A320 with registration PK-STD, which was manufactured in 2014, was operating flight IU2180 from Manado (MDC). However, it went off the runway while landing on a wet runway.

The A320 came to rest approximately 30 meters off the runway on soft ground. Thankfully, all 172 passengers and crew onboard flight IU2180 remained uninjured.

Reports indicate that the aircraft operating flight IU2180 encountered difficulties during landing due to wet runway conditions. The runway at Weda Bay Airport is 1650 meters long, and the A320 overshot the runway.

“We support and respect the investigation process that is being carried out by the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) and other authorized authorities. We apologize for the inconvenience experienced by the guests. We are committed to continuing to prioritize safety and comfort for guests.”

Ari Azhari, the President and Director of Super Air Jet.

An investigation is likely underway to determine the cause of the incident. Wet runway conditions can significantly impact an aircraft’s braking ability, and authorities will be looking into factors such as the severity of the weather, pilot error, and any mechanical issues that may have contributed to the runway excursion.

An Air India Express Airbus A320 was forced to perform an emergency landing after its right engine caught fire shortly after takeoff from Bengaluru.

The Airbus A320 with registration VT-ATF was performing flight IX1132 from Bengaluru to Kochi with 179 people on board including six crew members and two infants.

Flight IX1132 departed from Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport at 10:49 PM. However, shortly after takeoff, the pilots observed flames coming from the right engine and immediately declared an emergency.

While the engine fire itself caused no injuries, some passengers sustained minor injuries during the emergency evacuation on the taxiway, which utilized inflatable slides.

Thankfully, a full-scale emergency was declared upon landing, and the fire was promptly extinguished. Both the airline and airport authorities are investigating the cause of the engine fire.

Passengers were provided with accommodation for the night, with some opting to stay at the airport and others being transferred to nearby hotels. The airline arranged an alternate flight for some passengers on Sunday morning, with the remaining passengers were accommodated on evening flights operated by Air India Express or other airlines.

An airport agent fell from a Transnusa airlines aircraft in Indonesia.

In a rare and scary incident, a stepladder was removed from an Airbus A320 with the door still open at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Cengkareng on 13 May 2024.

The ground agent was still in talk with the crew while leaving the plane and didn’t notice that the stepladder was already gone.

This incident is breaking basic aviation rules as Jas Airport services workers are not supposed to remove it while the door of the aircraft is still open.

According to source, the man was getting treatment immediately and gratefully didn’t receive serious injury.

The incident occurred due to miscommunication between the flight coordinator (FC) officer and the passenger boarding stairs (PBS) officer from PT JAS, causing the FC officer to be  unaware of the PBS position when leaving the aircraft. TransNusa (PT TransNusa Aviation Mandiri) and PT JAS have ensured that the officer involved  in the accident has received medical treatment and is in good condition.

Airbus CEO announced on Thursday that the European company would open a second final assembly line in China, which will double its production capacity in the country.

This move is due to the increasing demand for air travel in Asia, particularly from the expanding middle class.

The new assembly line for Airbus’s A320 medium-haul jets will be in Tianjin and will begin operations in late 2025.

Airbus CEO Faury signed the framework agreement for the new site at a ceremony attended by French President Macron and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

During his visit to China accompanying French President Emmanuel Macron, Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury announced that the company would open a second final assembly line in China to double its production capacity there.

Faury believes it is a strategic move to serve the growing Chinese market and other regional customers. The first assembly site in Tianjin is currently producing four A320s a month, and Airbus plans to increase that rate to six a month this year.

The new assembly line, located in Tianjin, will begin operations in late 2025 and produce Airbus’s A320 medium-haul jets.

Airbus Expansion Plans

Last year, a Chinese aircraft received domestic certification and were expected to start commercial operation early this year, although it includes imported key components.

Airbus established a factory in Tianjin, China, in 2008, primarily focused on the assembly of the A320 and producing A321neo.

Since then, the factory has delivered more than 600 aircraft, as per the Airbus website. The Chinese government has often utilized aircraft purchases to balance bilateral trade.

After the US trade war began in 2018, Boeing’s sales in China declined. The sales dropped even further after two fatal crashes in Indonesia and Ethiopia, resulting in Chinese regulators grounding Boeing’s 737 MAX planes for almost four years.

In 1985, Airbus debuted in China by delivering an A310 to China Eastern Airlines. As of the end of Q1 2023, the number of Airbus aircraft in China has surpassed 2,100, accounting for over 50% of the market share.
