Uzbekistan Airways flight HY101 departed Tashkent on Tuesday, January 28 2025 at 07:14 UZT for a 13 hour and 10 minute flight to New York JFK.

About 8 hours into the flight, while the Boeing 787-8 (registration UK78701) was cruising at 40,000 ft over Greenland, the crew decided to turn around.

Pilots contacted ATC requiring an immediate diversion to Reykjavík due to a medical emergency on board.

A mother gave life to a baby during the flight prompting the emergency landing et KEF Airport at 12:03 UTC on runway 01.

The Boeing aircraft was then parked to a remote stand and resumed the flight one hour later.

Both mother and child are safe.
